Wisconsin high school to begin randomly drug testing students

These football players and their fellow students will soon be drug tested on a regular basis.
This seems like a wee bit of overkill from the Crivitz school district. From athletic director Jeff Dorschner:
“We have a growing drug problem in Marinette County and in talking with the police force and talking with school administrators and other conference athletic directors, I just felt that as a school we could do something to try to deter students,” said Dorschner.

Because of regulations, the school will only drug test students involved in any extracurricular activities or students who buy passes to park on school property.

So, not every student. Just every student involved in any extracurricular activity or a parking pass to drive to school. That probably covers most students, from the drama club to the debate team and everyone in between.

The only sane part of the policy is they allegedly won't be reporting to police:

The student’s urine sample will be taken at the school. If it tests positive, the student is given an athletic or club code violation and have to sit out on activities and go to school counseling. Their parents will be involved.

“They’re not expelled from school. We’re not getting the police involved. Their records are totally confidential through the nurse’s office and it’s getting these kids back on track,” said Doschner.

See interviews with Crivitz administrators and at least one parent who is fully supporting the new policy. From wbay.com:
